Local bus services in Newport East are set to be boosted from 11 January 2010. Newport Bus is revamping its Alway and Ringland routes which will result in a 5 minute service along Chepstow Road during the day.

Commenting on this news, the Deputy Leader of Newport Council, Cllr Ed Townsend said "This is excellent news and will mean residents in the Alway, Beechwood, Maindee and Ringland areas will have frequent bus services that they can rely on."

Ed continued: "Liberal Democrat Councillors are also working with the bus company on further improvements to our local bus services. We have also been working with Council officers to improve the dreadful state of the bus station with improvements such as better lighting and signage. Real time information is set to be installed some time in the new year."
